I trust that my readers understand how hectic the holiday season can be and will believe me when I say that's why I haven't updated lately :) I'll do better!
Binkie update...it's gone!!! We didn't find it on the floor like I was hoping. Buddy actually chewed the last one to bits. So, we took it away, and we haven't looked back. It takes him a little longer to fall asleep for naps and bedtime, but I'll take that over a binkie. HOORAY! I guess we'll have to find a new resolution for him ;)
Christmas night we got over one and a half feet of snow. SOOOOOOO annoying! LOL! I really don't like the snow, but I'm sure we need the water for this next year, so it is a good thing...I guess. The roads have been awful since. We barely got plowed out yesterday.
However, life is good. We are healthy, healthy, and looking forward to the new year.

Bye Bye Binky!
Well, we're in the process anyway. Buddy has been biting through his binkies lately. Well, on Sunday I noticed he had bitten through his last one. With it being Sunday, I didn't want to run to the store and buy a new one, and we wanted to wean him off of them soon anyway, so we decided to just do it. I cut the tip off the binky and gave it back to him. See, by cutting off the tip, you take the fun part off the binky. Hopefully, we'll find the binky on the floor one of these mornings because he's grown sick of using it.
While I am excited to get rid of the binky, it also makes me sad as my baby is growing up. Maybe I wouldn't be so sad if I was still pregnant, because I would have another baby on my mind. I just can't believe he is already 19 months old. Where did the time go? And again, I can barely remember a time when he wasn't in our family yet. Forever and no time at all in the same feeling. It's crazy how that can be. I wonder if that is what eternity feels like.

Music
Music is probably my most favorite thing about the Christmas season. I love how you can turn the radio on and listen to songs of our Savior. It brings a different spirit to my day when I've heard at least one song of Christ. I need to remember to listen to spiritual music throughout the year, not just Christmas and Sundays.
Our ward choir sang today, as I'm sure most in the Church did. While there certainly weren't professionals up there singing today, it was still very sweet and the spirit was very strong. I admire choir conductors in the church. They do this without pay, and they often give up quite a bit of their Sundays in order to do their job effectively. Also, I can only think of 3 other people that are dodged by other people more often than the choir director. Not only do they have to put up with being ignored, they also have to plan the Christmas program. My mom was the choir director for many years, and I know she worked really hard to get a program that would bring the Christmas spirit into peoples' lives.
I also went to a string quartet concert this evening. This is a yearly occurrence that I find to be a lot of fun. The concert is about an hour long and it's very informal. More like a bunch of friends and loved ones getting together to listen to good music and catch up with each other. My absolute favorite part of the evening? The lemon bars! Specifically, my mom's lemon bars. They are to die for and we generally only get them once a year. It's probably my favorite treat of the season. Krusteaz doesn't even come close.

Christmas :)
Well, Christmas is only 4 days away, as my daughter has informed me. She has a little countdown star that she made in preschool that she's been faithfully keeping track of. As Christmas is so close, we are about to embark to the dollar store in the snow. I have heard of friends who take their kids to the $ store and let them pick out anything they want to give to their parents. Too cute! So we will be starting that today.
Also, as a gift to me I suppose, I was wondering if my readers would mind leaving a comment when you visit. I'm curious to see who is reading my blog :)
Thanks!

Being Thankful
I was reminded again today at how short and unexpected life can be. My husband called me from work and let me know that one of his co-workers had died in a car accident this morning. This man leaves behind a wife and at least 5 children, the youngest being 5. Even though I didn't know this man or his family, it breaks my heart that his loved ones are left with this disaster in their lives a week before Christmas.
So, thinking of this has made me thankful for quite a few things today. I'll list them:
*My husband was home last night. I'm most thankful for this because I've been shown how unsure life can be and it just as easily could have been him NOT coming home tonight.
*Life insurance. As hard as it is to prepare for THIS kind of possible future, I'm so glad we did. It gives me peace of mind as far as finances go.
*My home. When we first got life insurance, we decided that if Chip should go before me, I would buy a condo in the city where my parents live so I could be close to them for help. This past fall we were able to buy a home that is withing 1/2 mile of their house, so, if anything were to happen, I will not be forced to move.
*My education. I am so glad I finished college when I did. I knew that if I quit after I got married or even after sis was born, I wouldn't have finished. I'm so thankful I have my degree to fall back on if needed.
*Good friends. I have really great friends that I know would step up and help if I were ever in this situation. Even more so, I have a best friend who HAS been in this situation starting at her husband's sudden death in April. I know I could turn to her for anything and she would understand, even when those around me wouldn't.
Life is so short and unsure. Please let your loved ones know how much you love them today, tomorrow, and everyday for the rest of your life. You never know when you won't get that chance again.

It's COLD!
I am not a winter person. I'm not sure if I would consider myself a summer person, but I'm certainly NOT a winter person. This morning it was a whopping THREE degrees. Yes, THREE! I have such a hard time warming up.
One plus? A lot of HOT baths and hot chocolate. WOOHOO!!! Oh, and soup. I love soup! I guess there is always a bright side to things.
The movie last night was very cute. I was pleasantly surprised. There were quite a few unexpected twists in the plot which made it a lot of fun to watch. I highly recommend it. :)

Short and Sweet
I want to keep my posting streak going, but I'm kind of in a hurry. I've already done a ton of stuff today. I went and did a wimpy workout at Curves (that place holds NOTHING to the rec center workout I did yesterday). Then I took the kids to the dentist. Then we went visiting teaching in the mall. Finally, we got home and now we're waiting for my mom to get home so we can go and see my Grandma today.
Later tonight is a much needed girls night out. HOORAY! We'll probably be watching "Penelope". I haven't seen it yet, but it looks like it might be good. Maybe I'll review it tomorrow for my post. Guess we'll see :)

The World is Spinning
I participated in my first Aerobics/Spinning class this morning at 6AM. I'm so grateful to my friend who is willing to come exercise with me. I was supposed to go to Curves with her yesterday morning and I backed out because I only got 4 hours of sleep that night and I couldn't face the morning yet. I called her after 9PM last night and asked if she wanted to go to the rec center with me today and she agreed! What a pal!
Anyway, this class really put Curves to shame! I got such a great workout. I was breathing heavy, sweating, hurting, all that good stuff. My arms have already started to ache from using measly 3 pound weights. I say measly, but they kicked my butt! I looked around and most of the other women there were using 7 pound weights or even more. I could not even fathom that this morning. I'm sure someday, as long as I keep this up, I'll get up there. Someday... LOL!
The spinning portion was something new all together. I didn't realize we were going to be standing on the bike a lot of the time. It's glorified jogging! Not such a fan of jogging. Anywho, it was fun during the sprints, but the "jumps" were hard. Again, maybe someday it will get easier and I'll be able to participate fully. Today, however, I'm grateful for the nice ladies that encouraged my friend and me. They were so nice and kept telling us we would get it and not to give up.
I feel really good :) Where is the motrin?

Good Mourning
No, I didn't misspell mourning. I also realize that most people would think it's weird to have a post such as this. How can mourning be good?
A little back ground. Most of my readers probably know that I suffered a miscarriage about 6 weeks ago. It was the second miscarriage I have had in my lifetime, so I've been through all these emotions before. It has, however, been easier this time than it was last time. I don't feel as cheated this time. I feel more open to the fact that everyone has their trials and no one gets a reprieve.
Last night was difficult though. I feel so empty. I'm supposed to be ending my first trimester this week, and it hurts to know that isn't happening. I missed my baby last night. For the first time in quite a few weeks, I mourned for my baby. I don't know if I was trying to be strong before that or what. Poor Chip. I feel bad crying in front of him because I'm afraid he feels it's his fault when I cry. I don't have any reason to think that way, it's just a feeling I have. Maybe it's because it's something he can't fix for me, and so I don't want him worrying about it. I don't know.
You know what? It felt good to be mourning last night. It felt good to remember my baby and be sad about losing her (I feel like the baby was a girl). Of course the ache and tears aren't comfortable, but I felt more normal last night. I guess that's the best way to explain it.

I looked out the window...
...and what did I see?
About 2-3 inches of snow. All over. Even the road. Can I tell you how grateful I am that Chip doesn't have to go to work today? I sit and worry about him when he's gone on snowy days. We are supposed to go to his work party tonight, and I was really looking forward to it, but I may have to stay home.
Sis came down with a fever this morning. It was 100.9 and her poor cheeks are bright pink. She says her body hurts. When I told her about her fever she was devastated. We had just told her she was going to a Christmas party with Grandpa, and she began to cry when she thought she may not be able to go. I am hoping her little body will fight this off quickly. We're doing what we can to help her through it. She's relaxing and drinking a lot of water. We even had her get a blessing. I pray she will be healed tonight not only for her comfort, but so that she will understand that Heavenly Father loves her and cares about her wants. I hope she has the faith to be healed and that her testimony will be strengthened through this. Maybe I should go down and help her say a prayer that she wants to get better really quickly. I'm thinking, if she doesn't have any other symptoms, that I may just give her some meds and send her anyway. I don't want to get everyone else sick, but she has been so sweet about this whole situation all day. Any extra prayers from anyone reading would be appreciated.

Silly Kids
I realize that everyone reading this that has kids will understand what I'm talking about. Silly is good, right? My two kids are "playing" with each other today. I put playing in quotes because mostly its my daughter bossing around my son and complaining that he's doing something to her. Luckily he's only a year and a half and doesn't realize what she's doing. I knew when we got pregnant with him that he would have two mommies.
It drives me nuts when they fight over toys. Really? Do we not have enough toys that you can find SOMETHING to hold your attention while the other toy is being played with? Apparently not. In fact, the fights right now are not about toys. They are about plain old cardboard boxes. Yep, might as well not have spent money on Christmas at all.
Speaking of Christmas spending, I'm really proud of myself this year. I've limited myself to simple presents for the kids and only 2 at that. I figured the kids could get a present from mommy, a present from daddy, and then whatever Santa brings for the stocking. I loved Christmas growing up. We would get totally spoiled! Not only would Santa bring us 1/2 a couch of gifts, but mom and dad would give us a lot of gifts as well. As much as I really enjoyed that, I can see how that could get very expensive. In order to save money in the future, I decided to limit the gifts now when they are little. That way, it won't be a big disappointment when they are teens.
Not only will my kids not get totally spoiled as I did, but I hope it means we can focus more on the true meaning of Christmas. As fun as toys and goodies are, we really don't NEED them and we NEED Christ. Without Christ, there wouldn't be a Christmas, and I want them to remember that. I'm sure a lot of parents feel this way.
Oh, and have you heard about the comment gifts? We are supposed to leave comments on everyones' blogs as a gift for them. Cool eh? I know I won't complain ;)

Old TV Shows
I LOVE old TV shows. For the past 5 years on my birthdays, Chip has gotten me the seasons of the Dick VanDyke show from back in the 60s. It's great! I love how clever the humor is as well as the great physical humor they do.
The reason I bring this up is I was watching Star Trek: Next Generation shows yesterday. I have never considered myself a "Trekie" but I have enjoyed watching the show. Anyway, yesterday I watched an episode where the crew of the Enterprise were de-evolving. It was creepy to see how people were changing into different creatures and the whole ship was basically turned into a zoo. One guy couldn't hold still because he was turning into a spider.
So, after this episode, it was time to run to the orchestra rehearsal. Chip was trying to help me, but I was totally weirded out by the show. I felt like I couldn't hold still and needed to do everything, almost like the spider guy. Apparently, I watched a bit too much Star Trek yesterday. LOL! Anyway, I know this post is totally random, but what can I do? My life is random :)

The most wonderful time of the year!
I'm really excited for this time of year. Not only is it the season we celebrate the birth of our Savior, but it's also time for the orchestra concert! I'm really excited for my students to play in their concert and have a good experience. I remember last year, my first year, I was so impressed at how well they sounded. I wouldn't have guessed it was a beginning orchestra that had only played for two months.
I know my students are really nervous. I tried to help ease that this year by having them play in a school assembly. I think most of them caught the fun spirit of performing and are looking forward to tomorrow night.
My evening is crazy busy today. As soon as Chip gets home, 1/2 hour earlier than usual, I have to run to a rehearsal for orchestra. Then I have a church dinner to go to that I'm hoping to make it in time to eat! I really should go and do my volunteer work at the hospital today, but that may have to wait for tomorrow...if I get a minute tomorrow.
I'm so thankful that I have things to keep me busy. How boring would life be without things to do?

Hot Chocolate and Good Friends
Today is chilly. Not only is it chilly, but it's actually snowing. I guess that's better than being bitter cold and no snow. I really don't enjoy winter time. I would be fine living somewhere with mild temperatures all year round. I don't enjoy the worry of slick roads or how I'm going to get my car uncovered. I hate getting my hands cold. One good thing that comes from living in a cold climate is hot chocolate! I can't seem to get enough when it is so cold. I had some today and I'm seriously considering getting more as I'm still chilled. I really shouldn't though as it's not all that good for me. I wonder how warm milk tastes...
I had a lot of fun chatting with my German "Sister" online today. It's the first time we've chatted in a long time. It was so good to catch up! I really miss having her around. She was an exchange student that lived with my family during our senior year of high school. I remember that we got along fairly good, but not great all the time. I feel bad that we didn't get along better, and I'm positive it was my fault. We seem to get along great now and it makes me so happy that we do. I miss her :) Someday we will be able to meet up again.

Just start typing
Well, I've sat here for a good five minutes contemplating what I want to write about tonight. A lot of thoughts crossed my mind, and I figured I would just start typing and see what happened.
I went to church today, like I do every Sunday. It was very nice to be able to sit during the lessons and not have to worry about Buddy and what he was doing. You see, Buddy just started the class for children 18 months to 3 years a couple of weeks ago. Today, he had a blast playing with the toys in nursery and he seems to get along with the teachers really well. I do miss having a baby to snuggle through the lessons. It makes me sad to see that my baby is growing up into a little boy. I knew it would happen, but I didn't realize time would go so quickly.
In church we had a lesson on how music is a divine gift from God. I really believe that it is. There have been several times in my life where the lesson I needed to learn at that moment was through a hymn. For example, my great grandma died while I was a teenager. I didn't know how to feel about her death. I knew that she was really old, and I highly doubted she knew who I was while she was here. Still, I was sad that she wouldn't be around to visit anymore. While I was mourning her death, I heard the hymn "I Know That My Redeemer Lives." In this hymn, it says "He lives to silence all my fears. He lives to wipe away my tears. He lives to calm my troubled heart. He lives all blessings to impart." This part of the song really touched me. For the first time that I remember, I felt that Christ was aware that I was sad and that he knew I would miss my grandma. I didn't feel ashamed for feeling bad. I felt...understood! I guess that's the best word to describe it.
I have often been reminded of the divinity of music. I am so thankful that we have music in our lives. I'm thankful that I have the ability to play and teach music for others around me. As I've mentioned before, I've seen lives change in my little orchestra class and I believe that has happened through music. We are creative beings and music is a way for us to satisfy a need to create. What a blessing it is.

As I've mentioned before, I've seen lives change in my little orchestra class and I believe that has happened through music. We are creative beings and music is a way for us to satisfy a need to create. What a blessing it is.

Interesting Dreams
You know that dream where you are late for school or class and you can't remember what class you're supposed to be in? Or how about when you go to your locker and can't remember the combination? It seems I have been plagued with these sorts of dreams more recently than before. Last night's was a bit different and I hope it means these dreams will stop :)
Last night I was with Chip and his little brother and I remembered that I was going to be late for school! We got to the school about lunch time and I tried to remember what class I had. Was it math? English? PE? I had no idea. As I'm walking arm in arm with Chip, I realize that I'm married. Not only am I married, but I graduated from High School some time ago and I should not have to worry about which class I'm late for. So, I decide I will just quit worrying and not go. It was so liberating! Here I am, walking through the halls at school and thinking I'm there just because. LOL! Way too weird. I've never had this dream and been married to Chip in it before. Maybe that change will mean I'll no longer have to dream it.
Well, I can dream, right?

Heathly
I'm getting healthy. For the past 3 weeks or so, I've been exercising with a new friend of mine. At first we started out walking with the kids about 9am, but winter hit. It really stinks being out in the cold with little ones. Heck, it stinks being out in the cold anytime! So, now we go to the gym together 3 times a week at 6am. It's a lot earlier, but much easier without the kids.
I also got a great break! I am now babysitting once a week at the local recreation center and can attend the aerobics classes for free or have a half price membership. That's only $105 for the entire year. That certainly puts Curves to shame. LOL!
So, I'm feeling good, and I've been told by some that they can see a difference. I've been afraid to get on the scale as I tend to gain muscle first, which means I gain weight as well. I'd rather avoid seeing that and just focusing on feeling good.

New Blog
I recently set my previous blog to private. I never update it anymore, but I don't have the heart to delete it completely. I got nervous posting too many private things about me and my family, that I didn't want to risk getting into trouble with it.
Anyway, I figured I'd give myself somewhere to just sit and write. I haven't been good about keeping a blog before, and I know better than to promise to do better here. I probably won't post many pictures, so it may be boring for anyone who happens upon it.
A little about me. I'm a SAHM to my 5 year old daughter "sis" and my 18 month old son "buddy". I have been married to my amazing husband "Chip" for 6 1/2 years. It has been a wonderful time of my life, and I would never trade it for anything.
I also teach orchestra in the elementary schools. I love it, even though it's difficult some days. Certainly there are days I want to quit. What keeps me going is I believe in the power of good music, especially in young lives. It's really amazing when you find that child that isn't good at anything...isn't especially good at orchestra...but has found somewhere where they belong. There's nothing like it.
I had best be going to bed. I hope to be back tomorrow :)
